Riverton Update: The Receiver’s Notice and RTA’s Next Steps
October 1, 2026

Dear Riverton Neighbors,
Following our previous update about Riverton’s receivership, we are sharing the notice distributed to residents on September 30. RTA is communicating with A&E Management and the receiver to advocate for better living conditions, reliable services, and accountability. Our attorney is assisting us throughout this process.
What does the new notice tell us?
The notice states that A&E Management will continue handling daily operations, including maintenance, building staff, and resident services, on behalf of the court-appointed receiver, Christopher Neilson.
It also provides rent-payment instructions and contact information, and states that existing leases remain in effect.
What do residents need to do?
According to the notice, residents who pay online should continue using their current payment platform. Residents paying by check should follow the mailing instructions provided in the notice.
Continue reporting maintenance issues to A&E at maintenance@ae-re.com or 212-721-5500. Keep records of your requests, payment confirmations, and any correspondence.
What is RTA doing?
RTA has met with management about the receivership. Our attorney has also contacted the receiver directly, who has agreed to meet with us.
We will present both parties with our documented concerns and questions about who is responsible for addressing them. Our goal is to secure clear answers and measurable improvements for residents.
What are our priorities?
We are asking management and the receiver to address:
Heat and hot water: Reliable service and completion of necessary boiler repairs.
Security: Secure entrances and gates, with working locks and fob access.
Pests and sanitation: Effective rat control, cleaner grounds, and attention to wildlife concerns.
Elevators and lighting: Reliable elevators and properly lit common areas.
HPD violations: Correction of outstanding violations and recurring conditions.
These concerns existed before the receivership and remain priorities during this transition.
What answers are we requesting?
For each priority, we are asking:
Who is responsible for resolving it?
What funding and approvals are needed?
What action will be taken, and when?
How will residents report unresolved or urgent problems?
We are requesting named contacts, written responses, and a clear repair schedule so progress can be tracked.
What about Riverton’s tenant commitments?
RTA is asking how the Regulatory Agreement and other commitments affecting Riverton residents will be administered during the receivership.
Our attorney and pro bono legal team are helping us review these obligations and raise the appropriate questions with management and the receiver.
How will residents stay informed?
We are requesting regular communication between RTA, management, and the receiver. We will share verified updates at rivertontenants.org as we receive them.
RTA remains Riverton’s independent tenant association. We will continue advocating for residents and working toward a safer, better-maintained community.
